It's been 10 years since the launch of the original Ipod classic and it seems, as some sources have claimed, that apple shall be focusing its attention fully on the touch capable mp3 devices of its lineup and discontinuing the non-touch models. Apple is likely to attempt to drive attention towards its newest Ipod touch model, as well as the Ipod nano, which are both likely either to receive updated looks/specifications, or price reductions in time for the holidays. The Ipod Classic, as well as the Ipod shuffle are likely due to be discontinued.

The reasoning behind this is to entice buyers into purchasing a higher priced product, which will also increase the value customers receive in their product. Among the benefits to upgrade to an iPod touch include a larger touch capacitive scree, access to the app store, front and back facing camera, a built in speaker as well as a multitude of other upgrades.
